On opening your eyes in the morning
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Alhamdu lillāhil-ladhī aḥyānā baʿda mā amātanā wa ilayhin-nushūr.
All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.
As you lie down to sleep
بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Bismika-llāhumma amūtu wa aḥyā.
In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.
On the right side before sleeping
اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْكَ
Allāhumma aslamtu nafsī ilayk, wa fawwaḍtu amrī ilayk, wa aljaʾtu ẓahrī ilayk, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayk.
O Allah, I submit myself to You, entrust my affair to You and turn my back to You for protection, in hope of You and in fear of You.
Morning and evening remembrance
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ
Allāhumma innī asʾaluka al-ʿafwa wal-ʿāfiyata fid-dunyā wal-ākhirah.
O Allah, I ask You for pardon and wellbeing in this world and the Hereafter.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبْثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika minal-khubthi wal-khabāʾith.
O Allah, I seek refuge with You from all evil beings.
غُفْرَانَكَ
Ghufrānak.
I seek Your forgiveness.
اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا
Allāhumma ṣayyiban nāfiʿā.
O Allah, may it be a beneficial rain.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
Alhamdu lillāhil-ladhī kasānī hādhā wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah.
Praise be to Allah who clothed me with this and provided it for me without any power or might from me.
أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
Ashhadu an lā ilāha illa-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh.
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.
اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
Allāhumma-ftaḥ lī abwāba raḥmatik.
O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
Allāhumma innī asʾaluka min faḍlik.
O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.
After the opening takbir
سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ
Subḥānaka-llāhumma wa bi-ḥamdik, wa tabāraka-smuk, wa taʿālā jadduk, wa lā ilāha ghayruk.
Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise. Blessed is Your name, exalted is Your majesty, and there is no god besides You.
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي
Rabbi-ghfir lī, rabbi-ghfir lī.
My Lord, forgive me. My Lord, forgive me.
In the final sitting of salah
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad, kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd.
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَمِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ
Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min ʿadhābil-qabr, wa min ʿadhābi jahannam, wa min fitnatil-maḥyā wal-mamāt, wa min sharri fitnatil-Masīḥid-Dajjāl.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, the punishment of Hellfire, the trials of life and death, and the evil of the trial of the Antichrist.
After each prayer
اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ
Allāhumma aʿinnī ʿalā dhikrika wa shukrika wa ḥusni ʿibādatik.
O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You and to worship You well.
In distress or difficulty
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn.
There is no god but You; glory be to You. Indeed, I was among the wrongdoers.
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ʿadhāban-nār.
Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
After each prayer and before sleeping
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ
Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwal-Ḥayyul-Qayyūm, lā taʾkhudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm… (Qur'an 2:255)
Allah — there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. (Recite the full verse.)
Morning, evening and before sleeping — three times each
قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ … قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ … قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
Qul huwa-llāhu aḥad… Qul aʿūdhu bi-rabbil-falaq… Qul aʿūdhu bi-rabbin-nās…
Recite Surah al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas three times each, wiping over the body as reported.
When stopping at a place, or fearing harm
أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Aʿūdhu bi-kalimāti-llāhit-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
Three times morning and evening
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Bismillāhil-ladhī lā yaḍurru maʿa-smihi shayʾun fil-arḍi wa lā fis-samāʾi wa huwas-Samīʿul-ʿAlīm.
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
When facing pressure, threat or anxiety
حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Ḥasbunā-llāhu wa niʿmal-wakīl.
Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ
Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika an ushrika bika wa anā aʿlam, wa astaghfiruka limā lā aʿlam.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating anything with You, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do not know of.
Morning and evening
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Allāhumma anta rabbī, lā ilāha illā anta, khalaqtanī wa anā ʿabduk, wa anā ʿalā ʿahdika wa waʿdika mā-staṭaʿt, aʿūdhu bika min sharri mā ṣanaʿt, abūʾu laka bi-niʿmatika ʿalayya wa abūʾu bi-dhanbī faghfir lī fa-innahu lā yaghfirudh-dhunūba illā ant.
O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I keep Your covenant and promise as much as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge Your favour upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
Astaghfirullāha-lladhī lā ilāha illā huwal-Ḥayyul-Qayyūm wa atūbu ilayh.
I seek the forgiveness of Allah, besides whom there is no god, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allāhumma innaka ʿafuwwun tuḥibbul-ʿafwa faʿfu ʿannī.
O Allah, You are Most Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
Bismillāh, tawakkaltu ʿala-llāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
Bismillāhi walajnā, wa bismillāhi kharajnā, wa ʿala-llāhi rabbinā tawakkalnā.
In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah our Lord we rely.
رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا
Rabbanā hab lanā min azwājinā wa dhurriyyātinā qurrata aʿyunin wajʿalnā lil-muttaqīna imāmā.
Our Lord, grant us from among our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes, and make us leaders for the righteous.
رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
Rabbi-rḥamhumā kamā rabbayānī ṣaghīrā.
My Lord, have mercy upon them as they raised me when I was small.
أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ
Uʿīdhukumā bi-kalimāti-llāhit-tāmmati min kulli shayṭānin wa hāmmah, wa min kulli ʿaynin lāmmah.
I seek protection for you both in the perfect words of Allah from every devil, every poisonous creature and every harmful evil eye.
بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ
Bāraka-llāhu lak, wa bāraka ʿalayk, wa jamaʿa baynakumā fī khayr.
May Allah bless you, and shower His blessings upon you, and join you both together in goodness.
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ
Subḥānal-ladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn, wa innā ilā rabbinā la-munqalibūn.
Glory be to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it ourselves; and indeed to our Lord we will return.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى
Allāhumma innā nasʾaluka fī safarinā hādhal-birra wat-taqwā, wa minal-ʿamali mā tarḍā.
O Allah, we ask You on this journey of ours for righteousness, piety, and deeds that please You.
آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ
Āyibūna tāʾibūna ʿābidūna li-rabbinā ḥāmidūn.
We return, repenting, worshipping and praising our Lord.
أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ وَخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ
Astawdiʿu-llāha dīnaka wa amānataka wa khawātīma ʿamalik.
I entrust to Allah your religion, your trusts and the outcomes of your deeds.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ
Bismillāh, alḥamdu lillāh.
In the name of Allah; all praise is for Allah.
لَا بَأْسَ طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
Lā baʾsa, ṭahūrun in shāʾa-llāh.
No harm, may it be a purification, if Allah wills.
اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
Allāhumma rabban-nās, adhhibil-baʾs, ishfi anta-sh-Shāfī, lā shifāʾa illā shifāʾuk, shifāʾan lā yughādiru saqamā.
O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm and heal — You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind.
Place your hand on the pain, say Bismillah three times, then this seven times
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ
Aʿūdhu billāhi wa qudratihi min sharri mā ajidu wa uḥādhir.
I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I find and what I fear.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ
Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika minal-hammi wal-ḥazan, wal-ʿajzi wal-kasal, wal-bukhli wal-jubn, wa ḍalaʿid-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijāl.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from the burden of debt and from being overpowered by others.
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn. Allāhumma-ʾjurnī fī muṣībatī wa akhlif lī khayran minhā.
Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it for me with something better.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
Bismillāh.
In the name of Allah. (If forgotten at the start: Bismillāhi awwalahu wa ākhirah.)
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
Alhamdu lillāhil-ladhī aṭʿamanī hādhā wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah.
Praise be to Allah who fed me this and provided it for me without any power or might from me.
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِيمَا رَزَقْتَهُمْ وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْ
Allāhumma bārik lahum fīmā razaqtahum, waghfir lahum warḥamhum.
O Allah, bless them in what You have provided them, forgive them and have mercy on them.
ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
Dhahabaẓ-ẓamaʾu wabtallatil-ʿurūqu wa thabatal-ajru in shāʾa-llāh.
The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills.
رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Rabbi zidnī ʿilmā.
My Lord, increase me in knowledge.
Before a difficult conversation, lesson or presentation
رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي
Rabbi-shraḥ lī ṣadrī, wa yassir lī amrī, waḥlul ʿuqdatan min lisānī, yafqahū qawlī.
My Lord, expand for me my chest, ease my task for me, and untie the knot from my tongue so they may understand my speech.
يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ
Yā muqallibal-qulūb, thabbit qalbī ʿalā dīnik.
O Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion.
Two units of voluntary prayer, then this supplication
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ
Allāhumma innī astakhīruka bi-ʿilmik, wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratik, wa asʾaluka min faḍlikal-ʿaẓīm…
O Allah, I seek Your guidance by Your knowledge, I seek ability by Your power, and I ask You from Your immense bounty. (Recite the full narration, naming your need.)
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى
Allāhumma innī asʾalukal-hudā wat-tuqā wal-ʿafāfa wal-ghinā.
O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity and contentment.
اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
Allāhumma-kfinī bi-ḥalālika ʿan ḥarāmik, wa aghninī bi-faḍlika ʿamman siwāk.
O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful instead of what You have forbidden, and make me independent of all others besides You.
After Fajr
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
Allāhumma innī asʾaluka ʿilman nāfiʿan, wa rizqan ṭayyiban, wa ʿamalan mutaqabbalā.
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision and accepted deeds.
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
Lā ilāha illa-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamd, yuḥyī wa yumīt, wa huwa ḥayyun lā yamūt, bi-yadihil-khayr, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr.
There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs the dominion and the praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is Ever-Living and does not die. In His hand is all good, and He is capable of all things.
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
Aʿūdhu billāhi minash-shayṭānir-rajīm.
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed devil.
Before leaving a gathering
سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ
Subḥānaka-llāhumma wa bi-ḥamdik, ashhadu an lā ilāha illā ant, astaghfiruka wa atūbu ilayk.
Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.
جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا
Jazāka-llāhu khayrā.
May Allah reward you with good.
إِنِّي أُحِبُّكَ فِي اللَّهِ
Innī uḥibbuka fillāh.
I love you for the sake of Allah.
